Preparing for Trials

As the netball season has finished the next few weeks we will be posting advice on what to do for trials.

Have a Plan

  1. Ensure you have had adequate time to prepare and be fit enough to trial. Don't fall into the trap of leaving it till the last minute.

  2. Ask questions in the lead up if you need to - What is your strength, what areas do you need to work on prior to selections.

Practice

  1. Basics are essential to good netball. Make sure you practice these as much as you can.

  2. Footwork, passing needs to be worked on, shooters go to the post as often as you can, defenders/midcourt - you may think shooters are the only position to do additional work - wrong, you need to ensure your working just as hard. WA/C work hard on placement of pass - touch on pass - quick decision making. WD/C/Circle D work hard on elevation, footwork and closing footspeed.

  3. Are you physically ready? Fitness, speed, change of pace, agility are all key elements to performing at your best.

  4. Be mentally prepared - not all trials go to plan - stay positive - every time you are on the court is a new time to show your best self.

  5. Challenge yourself whilst training - don't just go through the motions. If you are trialing in the heat, train when it is hot (but remember to always hydrate when training).

Stay tuned for Part 2
